GridBar

macOS AppSwiftUIProductivityAction BoardStream Deck AlternativeIn Review

Project Description

Status: In App Store Review — launch coming soon.

GridBar is a software Stream Deck for macOS — your personal action board. Press a hotkey, a beautiful grid appears, click a tile, action done. Open apps, launch URLs, access folders, toggle system settings, run shell commands, or trigger Apple Shortcuts. Multiple boards for different contexts. No hardware, no typing, no menu jungle.

⚡ The Concept

Every Mac user has recurring daily actions that take too many clicks: opening the Zoom link for standup, toggling Dark Mode, navigating to project folders, starting the dev server. GridBar solves this with a visual grid — one hotkey, one click, done. Like a Stream Deck, but as software.

🎛️ Tile Types

Open or activate apps. Launch URLs in the browser. Open folders and files in Finder. Toggle system settings (Dark Mode, DnD, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi). Run shell commands headlessly. Trigger Apple Shortcuts. Each tile is fully customizable with name, icon (SF Symbols, emoji, or app icons), and color.

📋 Board System

Organize your actions in multiple boards — Work, Creative, Personal, or custom categories. Each board has its own grid layout with 3×3 to 6×6 tiles. Switch boards via tabs at the bottom. Drag and drop to rearrange. Pre-built templates for a quick start.

🎨 Native macOS Experience

Built entirely in SwiftUI — no Electron, no web views. Floating panel with blur background, smooth animations, keyboard navigation with arrow keys. Appears in under 100ms. Feels like part of macOS. Hotkey fully configurable, default is ⌥ Space.

💰 Freemium

GridBar Free: 1 board with 8 tiles, basic tile types (App, URL, Folder), Dark Mode & DnD toggles. GridBar Pro: Unlimited boards and tiles, all tile types including shell commands and multi-actions, all system toggles, custom icons, auto board switch, and iCloud sync. One-time payment €14.99 or €7.99/year.

🔒 Privacy

100% local data storage — no cloud, no external servers, no tracking. All settings and board configurations stay on your Mac. No account required. The app only needs accessibility permissions for the global hotkey.
